 Life Is Unpredictable

I just got home from a funeral wake. It was heart wrenching to attend the wake of a friend's father tonight when just months earlier, I had attended the wake of her mother. It just goes to show how unpredictable life can be. One moment we're here and the next, blown away like the dust that we are.

Imagine if we were ignorant of our purpose here on earth and we run around trying to build our own empires at the expense of others. Going about furthering our possessions, assets, reputation, education and what not; all the while thinking that "it won't happen to me." With the scales on our eyes being thickened by our lust for the world, we fail to see what's most important (not just more important).

Though she's still hurting inside, she musters the courage to stand before us giving praise to God that her last moments with her earthly father was one of closeness and bonding. She even said that she was truly happy that her father was now in a better place.

She reminds me of Job who in response to losing ALL his animals and ALL his children in a single instant said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised." (Job 1:21)

God will make a way where there seems to be no way... My heart goes out to you dear friend; your life is a living testimony and encouragement to me.

here i am
Praise the LORD.

Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.

Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with tambourine and dancing,
praise him with the strings and flute,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.

Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.
(Psa 150:1-6)

this is me
Christ's life showed me how, and enabled me to do it. I identified myself completely with him. Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not "mine," but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Gal 2:20 MSG)
